Got an idea for a cartoon, skit, sketch or something weird, wonderful or outrageous?

The Viral Kitchen pilot scheme is a unique development programme that utilises the facilities, knowledge and experience of Second Home Studios for the development of local animators and animation graduates.

The scheme will be free to 4 successful applicants and even provide a small bursary contribution towards costs and expenses.

The tangible goal would be the development and production of 4 short film pieces approximately 30 seconds in length that have an original appeal and that will contribute to the portfolio of all those involved.

The projects will be developed in conjunction with Chris Randall of Second Home.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must live in the West Midlands area.
The scheme is open to:
Graduates in animation and media-related subjects.
Animators/film-makers looking to do/try something new.

The ideas can be shaped for any audience or target medium. This is a development scheme so the final piece could be something that tests the water of a new technique or forms the basis of a larger idea. Applications from all disciplines (ie, 2d, stop-motion, CG) are welcome but bear in mind that the repertoire of the studio is in stop-motion and 2d so ideas that play to these strengths are more likely to strike a chord. Animators with a CG background can use this as a development tool but remember that the execution is likely to fall to individual responsibility. Live-action film-makers with ideas that combine animation/pixilation may also apply. Games are eligible.

Remember this is a pilot scheme, so it can be as flexible as the ideas need it to be. Remember also that this is not a software training course. It is intended to build on participants existing knowledge and develop ideas creatively.

APPLICATIONS

Applications must consist of the following:

  1. Synopsis.
  2. Preferred working methods.
  3. End goal of the project and intended audience.

Accompanying visual reference, working drawings or designs are also incredibly helpful.

Applications must be limited to 3 ideas per applicant.

Please send applications to:

COMMITMENT

The deadline for applications is 24th May 2010.
Successful participants will be notified by 31st May 2010.
The scheme will combine collaborative group development
which explore ideas and individual one-to-one sessions
which take care of production and planning.
The films will then be prepared, produced and finished between time spent at the studio and individual commitment of the participants, depending on the demands and requirements
of each individual idea.

Collaborations between participants to produce the films are,
of course, welcomed and encouraged.

The final delivery of material will be on 4th October 2010.

BURSARY CONTRIBUTION

The scheme will award each participant £400 towards the completion of
their project. This may be put towards travel expenses, materials costs,
software, or anything directly related to the project
and its completion.
